Our Elementary Sunday School

models during the year to learn God's Word.
Calling all people who love children and who are willing
and able to be part of God's plan. We are looking for
Sunday School teachers for the fall. We have classes
open at 9:00 a.m. and at 10:10. Teachers rotate so that
they teach every other week. On the week that the other
teacher is in class, you are encouraged to attend an
adult Sunday School class. Please contact Dretha Burris,
Minister to Children and Families, if you are interested.

Agent Managers Wanted to lead Mission Possible Kids
We are looking for special people to lead our Secret
Agents (the children) during our Wednesday night program
which will start on September 3rd. Mission Possible
Kids runs from 7-8 pm right after GAPkids choir which
starts at 6:15. Our leaders help the agents with
mission projects they are working on. For more
information or to sign up, contact Bridget at bridget.williams@fumc-rowlett.org

MISSION POSSIBLE KIDS: Each Wednesday night during
the school year, children have the opportunity to be
secret agents for God while learning about God's special
agents in the Bible. MISSION POSSIBLE KIDS is a non-profit
organization dedicated to helping kids change the world
through helping others. Since our chapter started in
September of 2007, our children have touched more than
800 lives in mission to those in our community and around
the world! Some of the mission projects have included
making busy bags for children in the hospital, making
cards and gifts for nursing home residents, collecting
loose change for Russian orphans and making dolls out
of bandanas for children in Romania. There is a one
time member fee of $15 to join which includes a t-shirt
but all are welcome to join at any time. For more information
about this program or to volunteer, contact Bridget
Williams at bridget.williams@fumc-rowlett.org.

Children's Events:
SPRING:
Our church family celebrates children in worship twice
a year as Children's Sabbath . Generally
held the Sunday after Easter and the second Sunday in
October (National Children's Sabbath), Children's Sabbath
is a way for children to participate in worship which
gives them a better understanding of the service. Children
able to read and up to 5th grade may choose to read
the scripture or lead the Affirmation of Faith while
others may wish to help usher or participate musically.
During National Children's Sabbath we are reminded of
all children in our community, country and around the
world; the struggles they may have and are called to
respond.
On the Saturday before Easter we celebrate our risen
Lord with children at our annual Easter Eggstravaganza
. With everything from pictures with the Easter
Bunny, pony rides, bounce houses, carnival games and
a visit from the local fire and police departments children
and their families from within our church share Christ's
love and hospitality with families in the community.
Lunch is usually served and then it's off to the
egg hunts which begin in our chapel with a story about
the real meaning of Easter.
SUMMER:
At FUMC Rowlett, children from age 3 up to 5 th grade
come for a great time at Vacation Bible
School ! With 400-500 children each year
to minister to, much prayer, thought and work is put
in to one of the biggest spiritual growth events in
a child's life. This five day event generally held in
July uses rotation model curriculum where children go
to different activity centers daily instead of being
in the same classroom the entire time. Children learn
different bible points and verses each day through repetition
by rotating to crafts, snacks, games, dramatized bible
exploration and music in assembly time. This approach
to learning caters to all children with differing learning
styles and allows them to have fun while learning about
God's love. There is also opportunity during the week
for children to participate in mission through donations
to local charities. By the end of the week children
(and sometimes adults!) learn 5 new biblical principals.
We close the week by inviting all children back on Sunday
morning for worship to sing the new songs they learned
in VBS as well as show video from the past week's activity.
Every summer kids completing grades 3rd-5th have an
opportunity to spend the week at Bridgeport
Camp which is 40 miles west of Denton . So
what's camp like for these kiddoes? Camp is a life-changing
event! Each day at camp is filled with Christian
fellowship, creative worship, dynamic music, fun games,
team-building activities, arts and crafts, family groups,
and outdoor recreation. Children will have an incredible
week having fun, making life-long friends, and growing
in their faith in Christ. Camp forms will be mailed
to previous attendees in January or February and registration
will open up then to all. As always, space
is limited so sign up as soon as you can.
AUTUMN:
The weekend of Halloween the youth of FUMC sponsor
a Fall Carnival for their younger
friends. This carnival is full of fun and games,
dinner and a costume and pumpkin carving contest.
This is just a fun way for our teens to reach out and
have fun with the children of our church and community.
ADVENT:
The first Sunday in Advent is our annual Family
Advent Celebration . All members, friends
and family are invited to come learn about the meaning
of Advent while making crafts and sharing a meal.
Children in Kindergarten through 5 th grades are invited
to come to a Birthday Party for Jesus
which is generally held the second Sunday in December
during the 10:10 Sunday school hour. Just as any
child would experience at a friend's birthday party,
children bring presents of a new unwrapped toy to be
distributed to local families in need by Rowlett Reindeers,
play games and have cake. It's a great way to
remind children what is really important and of the
reason for Christmas
Parents' Night Out (PNO) &
F.R.O.G Camp (Fully Rely On God)
Looking for some hassel-free family fun ? We have two
programs that offer a safe and fun Christian environment
for children to socialize together while their parents
enjoy some quality alone time. Parents' Night Out (PNO)
is offered throughout the year on Friday and/or Saturday
nights and F.R.O.G. Camp is offered during the summer.
Truth be told, it's
a KIDS NIGHT OUT, but shhhhh they don't want us to tell
the parents. Check out our PNO/F.R.O.G
Camp page for the latest details.
